My Philosophy
Teaching is student-centered activities that must be directed toward helping the student acquire knowledge through the process of inquiry and intellectual empowerment. I believe that the best way to make student learn anything especially Information Technology is to make him/her part of the inquiry process through direct engagement/ hands-on.
Although a teacher is the leader in the classroom, I believe that making students involve in the construction of knowledge makes teaching and learning a two-way street. Students will not only be at the receiving end of information in the classroom, but they will also experience the production of such information and knowledge. I also believe that teachers should show enthusiasm in their teaching duty as a way of inspiring and stimulating the desire of students in the teaching and learning process. I am of the opinion that students would find it inspiring and motivating when they realize that they are an integral part of transformative-learning process in the classroom.
The goal I seek to achieve in the teaching profession is to serve as inspiration to the students and help them realize their greatest potential. Furthermore, I want to make the students recognize that my role as a teacher is to make them feel as part of the transformative-learning process, In so doing, I make them personally engaged with the material so that they will not only be at the receiving end of information, but will be active participants in creating and transmitting knowledge. I should be able to make Students appreciate their direct involvement in the construction and utilization of knowledge. I believe strongly that teachers should recognize that students are goal-oriented and they often tend to focus on doing what is required only in order to complete course requirements in class. Therefore, as a teacher, I should do whatever is necessary in order to lay the foundation for successful career. I should consider it as my responsibility to inspire the desire of students to learn and to guide them in acquiring information and knowledge to secure rewarding career.
In order to achieve my goal, I have to create a supportive learning environment in the classroom. I should encourage students to express their views on subject matter and listen to their personal experiences as they relate to the learning process. I should promote and respect intellectual diversity as a way of encouraging individual to develop critical thinking skills. It is important for teachers to understand that successful teaching entails helping the students to effectively articulate their acquired knowledge not only in the classroom, but also outside of the classroom. Besides my efforts in helping students develop independent critical thinking skills, I should make learning more interesting by not only relying on lectures, but implement detailed hands-on activities.
An important part of my teaching philosophy is my own professional growth. I am aware that teaching is a noble position that requires sacrifices as well as humility. My experiences as a teacher during the limited times I have taught make me to recognize that promoting and respecting intellectual diversity is healthy in personal intellectual growth. In conclusion, my philosophy is one that encourages motivations for students in classroom learning and recognizes intellectual diversity as an idea that deserves respect in academy environment.
